Setting up a Linux Email Server

Posted by Graham Greenaway on April 24th, 2007

A couple of months ago we took a step closer to a Microsoft free office and replaced our MS Exchange email server with a Linux machine.

The primary motivation for doing this was obviously the huge saving in cost a Linux server has over a Windows counterpart and nothing to do with a personal motivation to play around with Ubuntu and learn more about Linux.

As it was my first dabble into setting up a Linux computer to run one of the core systems in the office, I thought I would share some of the articles that I found useful.

In the FHR installation I combined various sections of the articles along with knowledge gained in discussion groups and chat rooms to create a server that was running Postfix, Courier and SpamAssassin with firewall, anti-virus protection and backup facilities added in for security and peace of mind.

Install multiple versions of Internet Explorer

Posted by Graham Greenaway on March 23rd, 2007

Its now possible to test how your website will look for those people who have yet to make the upgrade to IE 7.

Whilst you can happily test a website in Firefox and Internet Explorer (IE) on one machine it hasn’t been easy to see how your site will look in previous version of IE as you can only have one fully working version installed at a time.

When new versions of IE are released you may be keen to install the upgrade as soon as possible but you can’t count on the fact that all your visitors will do the same. Simply looking in your web log files will show that there are still many people using IE 6, a smaller number using IE 5 and even IE 4 makes an appearance every now and again.

You can download an installer that will allow you to set-up multiple standalone versions of IE from Tredosoft.com
