As the August Bank holiday weekend fades to a distant memory and we come to terms with how quickly September has come around many people are supporting filling the huge gap between the August weekend and Christmas with a new bank holiday to celebrate being British!

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), the think-tank that looks into this kind of thing, says that there should be a British National Day that falls on the Monday after Remembrance Sunday, this year’s would be the 12th November.

The IPPR believe that a new national holiday day would help boost a sense of national identity as well as celebrating diversity and providing the opportunity to say “thank-you” by awarding civic honours on the new holiday.

However, not everyone is in favour of the new holiday, with the Confederation of British Industry estimating that it could cost the economy of £6bn
