Glasgow Airport gains new flight routePassengers travelling from Glasgow Airport will now be able to visit Venice, thanks to the launch of a new flight route.

Barrhead Travel, which has 11 stores throughout Scotland, will be selling the new flight, which will be run by bmi and travel between May and September 2010.

Amanda McMillan, managing director at Glasgow Airport, said they were "delighted" with the new service.

The north-west hub, which claims to have more than 100 airline partners, was applauded for its efforts to adopt sustainable travel, as well as its investment in improving passengers' travel experience.

It has now outperformed rivals airports, including Gatwick and Heathrow, for the second year in a row at the awards.

Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports deliver 'good performance' in 2009Three travel hubs owned by BAA have performed well so far this year and their outlook looks set to remain positive, it has been reported.

Heathrow Airport, along with Stansted Airport and Gatwick have experienced high retail sales and have seen operational costs fall by 3.3 per cent, according to the latest results published by the BAA.

It went on to add that Heathrow Airport had achieved better service quality scores and punctuality statistics than its competitors.
