Ryanair has announced that it will be adding two new aircraft to its fleet at the Liverpool hub.

Edinburgh Airport unveils new departure loungePassengers at Edinburgh Airport will now be able to benefit from a new departure lounge after it was unveiled by officials.

Gordon Dewar, managing director at the Scottish travel hub, said it was a "historic moment" for the airport.

He added that it was the first phase of what would be the biggest single development in 32 years at the hub.

Flight routes announced for Bristol, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Glasgow airportsRyanair has launched new flight routes for four UK travel hubs - Glasgow Prestwick Airport, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Edinburgh Airport and Bristol Airport.

Stephen McNamara, from Ryanair, remarked that the new routes would transport 400,000 passengers and increase customer choice.

"Ryanair routes at these airports deliver millions of passengers, and sustain thousands of jobs at each airport and in the surrounding regions every year," he added.

Passenger numbers fell by 5.8 per cent last month, the airport's data has revealed.

The Welsh travel hub has had the gates installed in the hope that they will be able to fast-track passengers.

This is because the airport operates a reduced flight service during the winter months.

Derek Provan, customer service director at Glasgow Airport, said Terminal 2 is usually quiet during the winter so it made "economic sense" to close it.

New flights from Birmingham Airport launchedPassengers traveling from Birmingham Airport will have more choice next year, thanks to the launch of new flights due to start next year.

The new flights with Monarch Airlines travel from the Midland's hub and will run between May and October 2010.

Launched by MSC Cruises, the flights will take passengers from Birmingham to Palma de Mallorca in Spain where they can get onto a cruise and begin their holiday.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport wins two awardsThe Merseyside travel hub Liverpool John Lennon Airport has been honoured with Best Airport and Best Airport Car Park at the inaugural Holiday Extras Customers' Awards ceremony.

Ian Smith, head of commercial analysis for the Peel Airports Group, commented that it was "tremendous" to have won both awards.

He added that a lot of money had been invested into the airport car park to improve it and make it more hassle free.

Millions to be invested into Heathrow AirportPassengers travelling from Heathrow Airport are set to benefit from millions of pounds that will be invested into the travel hub.

BAA has announced that it plans to inject £500 million into its London Airports Group.

More than half of the money will be invested now and the rest is set to be released in January 2010.
