King visits Southampton AirportSouthampton Airport has had its fair share of famous people pass through its terminals in recent years including various English footballers and cricketers, and Bank of England governor Mervyn King added his name to that illustrious list this week.

Mr King and his team, which comprised of the Bank's agent Chris Piper and Andrew Holder, deputy agent for Central Southern England, were given a tour of the facilities by the hub's directors Jan Halliday and Guy Sutherland.

The visit was part of a tour of the region, which will see the governor assess the Hampshire economy.

Marketing magazine reports that this week will see a new brand identity established for the busiest hub in the UK.

Instead of BAA being used as a consumer brand, the airport will be marketed under the name Heathrow and with the strapline "Making every journey better".

Business in the Community (BITC) was the group offering the accreditation, which was given to the air gateway for the way it helps young people into the world of work and employment training.

There are a number of Stansted Airport hotels which employ a high number of local people too.

Gatwick Airport 'committed to community'The managing director (MD) of Gatwick Airport has acknowledged that the hub has a part to play in the local West Sussex community.

As a result, the airport has launched a 16-week public consultation in relation to its draft noise action plan, as it aims to manage the noise created by its operations.

MD Andy Flower said that the busy London gateway is aware that noise is an issue for a number of local people.

Bristol International Airport, which recently submitted plans to expand so that it can deal with up to ten million passengers every year by 2016, will therefore become only the fourth hub in the UK that offers such a service.

Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport and Manchester Airport are currently the only other destinations that provide the reception centre facility.

Luton Airport announces parking charges

Luton Airport announces parking chargesLondon Luton Airport has unveiled details of its new access and car parking strategy.

The new policy, which will come into force on July 1st 2009, is designed to discourage passengers from taking cars to the doors of the terminal.

Anyone using the designated drop off area will have to pay £1 for a ten-minute stay, while those who use the short-term car park close to the terminal will be charged £4.50 for 30 minutes.

Edinburgh Airport hotel wins European awardQuality Hotel Edinburgh Airport has won a prestigious award from its operator.

The 95-room establishment has been named as joint European Quality Hotel of the Year at the Choice Hotels International awards.

Judges from the Choice Hotels group, which also owns the Quality, Clarion and Sleep In brands, assessed nearly 500 properties in Europe based on a number of criteria, including guest satisfaction and cleanliness, before deciding on the winners.

Martin Evans, from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, told Wales Online that the Welsh Assembly should do more to get passengers using the Welsh travel hub.

His comments come after Bristol International Airport submitted plans to expand the travel hub so that it can handle up to 10 million passengers every year by 2016.
