UK passengers offered new class to Mauritius

People catching flights from the UK to the island of Mauritius have been offered a new business class service.

Air Mauritius announced that its new business class product will be available on all of its flights from the UK, which operate from Heathrow Airport.

The carrier's new provision includes lie-flat 'cocoon' seats that offer a 60-inch pitch and lots of room to recline.

Ryanair celebrates 20 years at Liverpool

Low-fares airline Ryanair has celebrated the 20th anniversary of its launch of services from Liverpool Airport.

The first flight offered by the airline from Liverpool, which launched in May 1988, connected the north-west city to Dublin.

Some 38 routes are now operated by Ryanair from Liverpool and the carrier is expecting to handle two million passengers on its flights from the hub this year.

People catching flights from Cardiff Airport are being offered special offers and discount prices on late-availability trips provided by Newmarket Holidays.

The company is offering promotions on trips to the Lake Garda region of Italy.

Holidaymakers who take advantage of the discounts will be taking a gamble of sorts as they will be allocated a hotel or resort on arrival.

Durham winter flights announced

Flyglobespan has revealed the network of flights that it will offer from Durham Tees Valley Airport this winter.

The carrier will offer weekly flights to a number of popular destinations, including Malaga, Alicante and Tenerife.

Rick Green, chief executive of flyglobespan, said that these routes were "extremely popular" last year and are expected to do just as well this winter.

We Will Rock You gets another 12 months

People on the lookout for West End theatre tickets for top shows will be happy to hear that We Will Rock You has had its booking period extended by 12 months.

The Queen musical will now be taking bookings at the Dominion Theatre until October 3rd next year.

We Will Rock You has been entertaining London theatre audiences since May 2002 and by September this year will have been seen by some four million people.

Aegean celebrates inaugural Stansted service

Passengers for the first flight between Stansted Airport and Athens were greeted with champagne and gifts from Aegean Airlines to celebrate the event.

The route, set to fly twice a day from the airport north of London, "provides passengers with a real alternative for their travel to Greece", according to the carrier.

The numbers of passengers using the airline increased by ten per cent in the last year, carrying over a million people in the first three months of this year.

Blackpool to host new ski services

Low cost airline Jet2.com has announced that it will offer flights from Blackpool Airport to the ski capital of Geneva in Switzerland next winter.

Communications manager at the airport Susan Kendrick said that there was a large demand for flights to the French and Swiss Alps "from residents across Lancashire and Cumbria", adding that the carrier was confident that the flights would be popular from the offset.

The flights will start weekly, with the first journey beginning on December 13th this year and running throughout the ski season until April.

Edinburgh 'UK's second city among foreign visitors'

Edinburgh Airport saw an increasing number of foreign visitors last year as the Scottish capital rose in prominence as a holiday destination among foreigners, according to new figures.

The Association of British Travel Agents released statistics showing that Edinburgh was the UK's second most popular destination among foreigners in 2007 after London, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.

Hubs such as Gatwick Airport and Heathrow Airport enabled London to take the lion's share of the visitor market, with 13.9 million foreign travellers, while Edinburgh welcomed some 1.13 million visitors.

Culture Capital status 'bringing visitors to Liverpool'

Liverpool Airport can expect to see an increasing number of customers this year as the city's 'Capital of Culture' status attracts visitors, it has been claimed.

Elliott Frisby, a spokesman for national tourism agency VisitBritain, said some new trends are emerging in the travel industry, including an interest in short breaks in self-catering accommodation.

He also explained that certain options are set to be as popular as ever this year, such as trips to Britain's major cities.

As well as taking advantage of its airport hotels and parking facilities, travellers using Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) can now make use of a brand new food outlet.

The Subway chain, which is known for its 'Sub' baguettes and sandwiches, is the latest store to open its doors to customers at Liverpool Airport.

Subway's opening follows the launch of Go Pizza, Bo Shoes and Antler outlets, which began trading at Liverpool in time for the city's year as European Capital of Culture.

This stamp of approval is the international standard for environmental management and is recognised across all industry sectors.

In order to receive the certification, organisations must demonstrate business management practices that incorporate environmental awareness and responsibility.
