Durham improves online car parking serviceDurham Tees Valley Airport has announced new initiatives which will make booking car park spaces easier for its passengers, according to reports.

A recently introduced online booking facility has made it possible for passengers to pre-book a space for their vehicle before they go on holiday while the airport has offered a 35 per cent discount to encourage people to use the service.

Passengers who book online at least ten days before their flight will be awarded the full 35 per cent discount while this will be reduced for those who leave it to between two and nine days prior to travel.

Belfast Airport helps disabled passengersBelfast International Airport has implemented new measures to assist disabled passengers in accordance with EU legislation, it has been reported.

A number of new services for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility have been introduced ahead of the legislation which states that airport operators are now responsible for providing all ground services for disabled flyers.

Belfast International Airport has struck a deal with business support organisation Interserve to help carry out the changes which will improve passenger facilities for millions of holidaymakers.

Drop in number of airport complaints

Drop in number of airport complaintsPassenger satisfaction appears to be increasing as fewer people are complaining about the service they receive at airports, according to reports.

According to the Air Transport Users Council (AUC), the organisation received fewer written complaints from passengers compared to the previous year with figures falling from 3,680 objections to 2,857.

AUC chairman Tina Tietjen said: "It may be more to do with airlines' customer relations staff getting to grips with (the legislation) and thus being more inclined to give passengers what they are entitled to."

Fast-track scheme unveiled at Bristol AirportPassengers at Bristol Airport will take part in a trial initiative aimed at speeding up the check-in process, it has been reported.

Launched on July 22nd, the new Fly Thru service allows travellers flying after August 5th the opportunity to use express security queues and go directly to the airport's security search area for a fee of £5.

Bristol Airport decided to implement the scheme after research revealed that 60 per cent of business flyers would use a service designed to speed up the security process.

Coventry Airport chief optimistic over terminalChris Orphanou, chief executive of Coventry Airport, is confident that the High Court will rule in favour of expansion plans, the Coventry Telegraph has reported.

Mr Orphanou believes that Coventry Airport will be successful in its bid to construct a new terminal after the government halted plans for the expansion on the decision of a planning inspector.

Mr Orphanou told the Coventry Telegraph: "They said that if Birmingham is so near there was no need for Coventry to exist, but there are lots of examples round the country of neighbouring airports being successful and complementing each other."

Birmingham Airport gives students awardSchool students from Birmingham have been given a top prize by Birmingham Airport, the Birmingham Post has reported.

Year 10 pupils at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Technology College have been awarded this year's Birmingham International Airport Communication Award after impressing judges with their communication skills.

Teacher James McCormick told the Birmingham Post: "All of this will stand them in good stead when they leave school and enter the business world for themselves. It's a real investment in the future."

New boss to start work at Birmingham AirportBirmingham Airport's new boss is ready to begin work after resigning from his previous post, it has been reported.

Paul Kehoe was named as the new boss of Birmingham Airport and will be given a £200,000 a year salary although he will remain as the chief executive officer at Bristol Airport until they find a successor.

Mr Kehoe said: "The developments that are either planned or under way are ambitious and will enable the airport to continue to make a significant contribution to the success of the region."

More passengers use Aberdeen Airport

More passengers use Aberdeen AirportAn increased number of passengers used Aberdeen Airport to fly to international destinations last month, it has been reported.

According to figures, there was a 1.3 per cent rise in the number of flyers traveling from the Scottish airport in June compared to the same month last year.

Overall 302,145 passengers used the third largest airport in Scotland during June which brings the total number of travelers that have departed from Aberdeen this year to 1.6 million.

Record breaking model lands at HeathrowHeathrow Airport has unveiled the world's biggest aircraft model which will welcome passengers on their arrival, according to reports.

A giant replica of the Emirates Airbus A380 jumbo jet has flown into the record books and taken its place on the newly Emirates Roundabout at the front of Heathrow Airport.

At a massive one-third the size of the actual aircraft the replica Airbus A380 has replaced the redundant model of a Concorde airplane which used to adorn the roundabout.

New terminal increasingly likely at StanstedPlans for the construction of a second runway at Stansted Airport have entered a new stage after it was announced there would be a public review into the expansion, according to reports.

A public inquiry will assess the practicality of the new runway project but the process is normally understood to be a signal of government support for any proposed scheme.

Runway project director Roger Pellman said: "We welcome today's news that our Generation 2 planning application for the development of a second runway at Stansted has been 'called in' and will now proceed to a public inquiry."

Siemens lands contract for Heathrow terminalSiemens Building Technologies has been selected by BAA to design the information and communications system for a new terminal at Heathrow Airport, it has been reported.

In a £3.6 million contract, Siemens will ensure that all organisations working at the Heathrow Eastern Terminal will be able to get passengers quickly and safely aboard their flight.

Peter Hawksworth, managing director of Siemens Security Systems, said: "The experience that Siemens has in similar size projects around the world reassured BAA that they have a safe pair of hands to deliver in these very important areas such as security, fire and information management."
