Stansted improves accessibilityStansted Airport has installed a number of new facilities for passengers with reduced mobility ahead of the commencement of new EU legislation.

A ruling from the EU, which comes into effect on July 26th, states that airport operators must take full responsibility for providing services for their passengers with reduced mobility.

Jeremy Harrison, customer insight manager at Stansted, said the airport had worked closely with the Airline Operators Committee to improve passenger facilities.

Sri Lankan Airlines is set to offer new flights from the London hub to the island nation from October 26th.

The project represents the airport's biggest single investment in more than 20 years.

The carrier announced that it plans to restore this route from October 26th, offering five flights a week.

Ryanair confirms new route to LiverpoolRyanair has announced a new route connecting Liverpool Airport to Ireland West Knock.

People travelling through Liverpool will be able to access the daily service to the Irish airport, which is located just outside Charlestown in County Mayo, from October 27th.

Annette Kearney, route development manager at Ireland West Knock, said the route is "another significant step" in the airport's growth.

Air passengers 'will soon rely on mobiles'A new piece of research has predicted that mobile phones will become 'indispensable' to air travellers over the next five years.

Sita, a provider of technology solutions to the aviation industry, predicted that mobiles would soon serve as "personal travel folders", carrying passengers' boarding passes, payment data and other information.

Some 90 per cent of airline passengers currently use mobiles and current growth rates indicate that there will be five billion mobile customers around the world by 2011.

Paperless boarding trialled at UK airportsBmi has launched a trial of a new paperless boarding system, which allows passengers to check in for their flights online and have their boarding pass sent to their mobile phone or personal digital assistant.

The airline is testing the system on a limited number of routes – from Edinburgh and Manchester Airport to London Heathrow and from Belfast City to Heathrow.

If it proves successful, the new method of boarding flights could be rolled out across the airline's network.

Promotional company I Love New York is teaming up with Virgin Atlantic to offer 60 days of wine tasting to encourage people to visit locations such as the Fingerlakes, Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

People travelling through the Virgin Clubhouse at Heathrow will be able to sample wines for two months from June 22nd.
