Singapore Airlines launches additional A380 flightsSingapore Airlines has today (July 16th) launched additional services to London Heathrow Airport using the Airbus A380.

Four additional weekly services between Singapore and Heathrow will be made available, giving a broader range of British travellers the opportunity to experience the world's largest passenger airliner.

The extra flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and bring the airline's total number of flights between Singapore and London to 11 a week.

Glasgow begins skyhub countdownThe beginning of this week saw Glasgow Airport begin the countdown to the launch of its terminal extension, known as skyhub.

Airport managers confirmed on July 14th that the £31 million development is on schedule to open in less than 100 days and is set to offer a better experience to passengers.

The two-storey development, which represents the biggest single investment in Glasgow for 15 years, will include a ground floor domestic arrivals hall set to open on October 21st and a new security search area due to open a few days later.

Brits 'in late scramble to book holidays'Many Brits appear to have left their summer plans to the last minute and are now making a late scramble to reserve holidays, according to figures from lastminute.com.

The site suggested that the indifferent start to the British summer may be a factor in the trend. Over the last seven days, as most of the UK has been drenched by rain, the number of visitors searching for holidays on the site increased by 23 per cent on the previous week.

Economic problems are also thought to have affected the trend, with holidaymakers waiting until the last minute to ensure that they are fully able to afford their trips.

More flights to link Stansted to Istanbul

More flights to link Stansted to IstanbulPegasus Airlines is set to increase the flight frequency on its route connecting London Stansted Airport with Istanbul.

From September 1st, the carrier will add an extra weekly flight to its current thrice-weekly service, followed by a fifth connection from October 1st.

The flights will depart Stansted at 12:05, arriving at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport at 18:40, with the return trip leaving Turkey at 10:30 to arrive in London at 12:15.

More than 900,000 through Birmingham in June

More than 900,000 through Birmingham in JuneBirmingham Airport handled some 936,868 passengers in June, it has been revealed.

The hub's overall traffic flow comprised 640,793 scheduled passengers and 296,075 charter travellers spread across two passenger terminals.

Overall there was a year-on-year increase of 2.8 per cent in Birmingham's passenger figures.

BAA figures show booming long-haul servicesAirport operator BAA has released figures covering passenger traffic in June, showing an increase in the popularity of long-haul flights.

This trend was particularly evident at Heathrow Airport, which accounts for 46 per cent of all air traffic through BAA gateways.

North Atlantic routes from the London hub saw a year-on-year increase of 10.7 per cent in passenger numbers, compared to a 2.7 per cent fall on domestic services and a 6.4 per cent reduction on European flights.

A380 to make debut in the north-west

A380 to make debut in the north-westThe Airbus A380 will make its debut in the north-west of England this weekend with appearances at Manchester Airport and Liverpool Airport.

Set to take place consecutively between 13:00 and 14:00, the plane's appearances will consist of a 'fly-past' at both airports followed by a cruise along Liverpool's waterfront.

Weather permitting, the A380 will then follow the River Mersey and make an appearance at the Wirral Show.

The Post Office published its online 'perfect packing' guide following a survey which found that 37 per cent of Brits admit to being messy, disorganised or over-zealous packers.

Nearly a quarter of respondents admitted to regularly packing too much and taking outfits for every occasion, while a contrasting seven per cent said they simply throw everything in and "hope for the best".
