Aberdeen Airport undergoes developmentA massive construction scheme has started at Aberdeen Airport which aims to attract more international routes to the region, it has been reported.

The development project will cost £10 million and will be completed in three parts with the first phase seeing a heated double walkway to separate arriving and departing passengers in an attempt to cut down on delays.

Phase one is expected to be completed early next year while phase two and three try and reduce congestion with the extension of the international arrivals hall and improvements to passport control and baggage reclaim.

Manchester Airport is part of a 107-strong faction called United City that is supporting the Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) which plans to extend the Metrolink light rail network to the hub.

Manchester Airport managing director Andrew Cornish said: "Improving the way that our passengers and staff access the airport is a key objective of our master plan to 2030. A successful TIF bid would enable us to reach our targets within the next five years."

Low-cost airline Ryanair has announced it will launch seven new flight routes from Luton Airport, from October 27th, bringing the total number of routes it provides at the hub to 20.

Natalie Raper, marketing director at Luton Airport, said: "We are delighted to announce these new routes with Ryanair giving our passengers yet more choice of places to visit and more convenience for business travellers."

July is record month for Birmingham AirportA record number of passengers passed through Birmingham Airport last month, the Birmingham Post has reported.

Birmingham Airport figures show that 1,036,135 people used the hub in July making it the first time ever that the airport has seen over a million passengers in one month.

Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham Airport, told the Birmingham Post: "It is another record breaking month for the airport. Additionally, our rolling 12 month record of over 9.5 million passengers is definitely something to shout about."

Airline may bid for Stansted AirportStansted Airport could be subject to a takeover bid after the boss of Ryanair expressed an interest in the airport, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Michael O'Leary, the chief executive of Ryanair, has commented that he is considering a £2 billion offer for Stansted Airport and would increase its passenger numbers if he was successful.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Mr O'Leary said: "I'd take it up from 24 million passengers today to more than 40 million by halving landing fees for all. You could have a second runway for £150 million and second terminal for £250 million."

Research by American Express revealed that 2.3 million Britons who travelled to Europe in the last year did not take out travel insurance because they thought an European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) gave them sufficient protection.

Chris Rolland, head of American Express insurance services, said: "With so many Brits planning a summer holiday in Europe this month, travellers should be careful not to rely on EHIC."

Turkish Airlines has announced it will be commencing routes from Birmingham Airport to Istanbul from December 15th which will be the first direct flights to the country from the midlands region.

Birmingham Airport's business development director Peter Vella told the Birmingham Post: "We can boast having one of Europe's most established and highest quality airlines joining us."

Newcastle Airport re-opensNewcastle Airport is open for business again after it was briefly closed following an incident with a fighter jet, it has been reported.

Flights are back to normal at Newcastle Airport although some travellers have experienced short delays to outbound flights and passengers are advised to either check the airport's website or contact their airline if they are concerned about the status of their flights.

An RAF Tornado overshot the runway at the eastern end of Newcastle Airport when it was forced to make an emergency landing following a suspected bird strike but has now been removed from the airport.
