New flights are offered by a range of carriers using the runways at Luton Airport.

At the start of May, El Al Israel Airlines began offering a total of six flights per week from the airport.

Last month, Romanian carrier Blue Air began a service offering two flights per week to Bacau, while earlier this week, flights to Forli in Italy commenced with carrier Wind Jet.

"New airlines choosing London Luton in the current economic climate reaffirms the airport's ease of use with great transport connections and close proximity to London," said airline manager at London Luton Airport Simon Harley.

He added that the network of services offered from Luton now covers more than 100 different destinations.

An independent review of the airport's response to noise concerns led Uttlesford District Council to describe the unit as not only well run but also properly responsive to complaints from the public.

"We understand aircraft noise can be a real concern for people and we'll continue to work hard to minimise the effects as far as we possibly can," said communications manager at BAA Stansted Graeme Wade.

He added that the airport is not complacent and will always work to do more to tackle noise pollution.

Mr Wade said he was delighted with the audit and thanked not only the council but also those in the local community for their work.

As a result of the decision, capacity on the twice-a-day service rose by a third from June 29th 2009.

The airline, which also operates a twice daily service between Leeds Bradford Airport and Edinburgh, said it had chosen to change the type of aircraft in response to demand from business customers on the route.

It has also changed the times of the flights to make them more convenient for business travellers and bmi Regional's commercial director Peter Kenworthy expects them to continue to prove popular.

"The new schedule for our Scotland to Leeds Bradford route and the increased capacity on flights out of Glasgow reflects our commitment to key business destinations within the UK," said Mr Kenworthy.

The airline currently flies twice a day to the Turkish city, which is growing in popularity as a tourist destination, but will add the extra flight from October 25th 2009.

It forms part of an overhaul of BA services from Heathrow Airport, which will also see the number of flights to Warsaw and Rome rise to three and six a day respectively.

The flag carrier also plans to fly to Barcelona seven times a day and to Prague four times a day.

However, it has also announced cuts to its services from Heathrow to Brussels, Paris, Nice, Berlin and Edinburgh Airport.

BA's range of services from the capital will broaden on September 29th 2009 when the first flight on the new London City Airport to New York JFK route takes off.

The new flight schedule will see easyJet more than doubling its number of services leaving the Danish capital, after already expanding its route network from the country to include Milan and London Gatwick.

This is in addition to the two existing routes it offered to Berlin and London Stansted.

From November, an additional daily schedule will be added to Berlin, the airline stated.

Carsten Norland, vice-president of aviation for Copenhagen Airports, said: "easyJet has significantly increased its presence at Copenhagen Airport in the past year, thereby intensifying competition on a number of routes. This will benefit passengers and we are naturally very pleased about that."

Manchester Airport also earlier benefited from two new routes with bmibaby to Amsterdam and Toulouse.

Statistics published by the Association of European Airlines (AEA) have revealed that the low-cost airline saw over 90 per cent of its flights take off on time, while less than one bag per 1,000 travellers was lost.

In contrast, 17 per cent of British Airways flights were delayed and the carrier misplaced 16 pieces of luggage per 1,000 passengers - around 20 times that recorded for Ryanair.

Ryanair has announced that it is now celebrating its positive customer service record by releasing one million seats across its European network in late August, September and October for just €5 (£4.26).

The seats will be available for booking until July 2nd 2009.

And the airline's Stephen McNamara said: "AEA's figures prove yet again that nobody beats Ryanair on customer service delivery while Ryanair continues to guarantee the lowest fares and no fuel surcharges ever."

According to Jet2, the low fare service based at Manchester Airport is the only direct route to Tel Aviv from the north of England.

"We will closely monitor bookings and if demand allows, will look to increase the service on a permanent basis," company boss Phillip Meeson revealed.

It was launched in May 2009 and the airline claimed that it has been popular with holidaymakers and the Jewish community in the region, with Tel Aviv offering coastline, history, architecture and history.

The Italian airline will start running flights between London and Forli from July 2nd 2009 and has plans in place to expand its operations at the facility.

Tickets for the route are now on sale and Forli is described by London Luton Airport as a gateway to popular Italian destinations such as Rimini, Ravenna and San Marino.

Italian-based Wind Jet expects the Airbus 320 services "to be a resounding success" and they are also timed to provide "simple onward flight connections" to Catania and Palermo in Sicily.

London Luton Airport airline manager Simon Harley said the facility was "delighted" to welcome Wind Jet, adding that "with the established Italian community in the local area we are confident these flights will be extremely successful".
