Gatwick Airport praised for public transport linksGatwick Airport has been praised for the quality of its public transport links by a rail network campaign group.

Railfuture compiled a report into the public transport links for the UK's major airports, including Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport. It found that there are huge variations within the level of service offered.

Trevor Garrod, who was involved in compiling the report, said: "Gatwick is a good example of best practice, with the rail station connected to the airport. Other rail connections have to be made via a bus or coach link, which is less satisfactory."

Katie Price and Alex Reid arrive at Heathrow AirportHeathrow Airport welcomed the celebrity newlyweds Katie Price and Alex Reid back into the country this weekend.

The pair were returning to the UK following their wedding at a private ceremony in Las Vegas on February 9th. Price was pictured walking through the airport wearing sunglasses and a fur hat.

Last May, Katie Price split from her previous husband Peter Andre and has since appeared on the ITV show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here. Reid is a cage fighter and recently won the celebrity version of the Channel 4 show Big Brother.

Endangered blind turtle flown into Heathrow AirportHeathrow Airport welcomed a loggerhead turtle named Homer this week (February 3rd) when he arrived in the UK to be re-homed.

The endangered species was flown into Heathrow Airport from Greece, where he had been living at a rescue centre for several years.

Homer, a 58-kg turtle, had been deliberately blinded and therefore could not live in the wild and there was no permanent home for him in Athens.

Airport car park expansion planned at Leeds BradfordLeeds Bradford Airport car parking is to be expanded by some 1,000 spaces thanks to a new £1 million contract.

As part of an overall investment of £28 million to improve passenger experience at the travel hub, the airport car park at Leeds Bradford Airport will be enhanced by civil engineering company Hewlett.

"The improvements form part of the preliminary stages of the airport's plans ... to provide business and leisure passengers with state of the art facilities and enhance their experience whilst travelling," said Rob Hudson from the Leeds-based company.

Flights diverted to Liverpool Airport due to snowA runway at Manchester Airport was closed again yesterday due to a flurry of snow and around 1,000 passengers were diverted to the travel hub at Liverpool.

Planes arriving from Heathrow Airport, Edinburgh Airport, Southampton Airport and destinations such as Helsinki, Paris, Fuerteventura and Zurich were forced to land at Liverpool Airport instead of Manchester.

It took workers at the travel hub approximately an hour and a half to clear the snow from the runway before it could be reopened.

Hillary Clinton 'welcomed at Stansted Airport'Stansted Airport welcomed the former first lady of America and current secretary of state Hillary Clinton to the UK.

Ms Clinton flew into Stansted Airport to attend a conference in the capital to talk about Yemen and Al Qaeda.

Also present at the talks were the United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, Gordon Brown and president of Afghanistan Karzai.

Luton Airport raises £36,000 for hospice

Luton Airport raises £36,000 for hospiceLuton Airport has announced that in 2009, it raised some £36,000 for a hospice that it chose as its Airport Charity of the Year.

Keech Hospice Care received the donation, which was made up of an initial £10,000 pledge followed by money raised through charity fundraisers carried out by employees of Luton Airport.

These included marathons, charity collections, cake baking, quiz nights, triathlons and a midnight walk.
