New route to France from Southampton

New route to France from SouthamptonTravellers using Southampton Airport will have more access to France from next month with a new service to be provided by Eastern Airways.

The UK regional carrier will fly from the south coast to Angers Loire in what is its first scheduled route to France.

Flights will commence on November 15th and depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Southampton Airport 'key part' of business successSouthampton/Eastleigh Airport has played a 'key role' in the city being voted the sixth best location in the UK for international transport links, according to airport operator BAA.

The airport was named one of the UK's major international travel hubs in the 2007 Cushman & Wakefield UK Cities Monitor report.

Research was carried out among senior executives from the top 200 companies around the UK, examining the key issues that are taken into account when firms consider where to locate their business.

New Zealand PM flies from Southampton

New Zealand PM flies from SouthamptonSouthampton/Eastleigh Airport played host to a high-profile passenger last week when the prime minister of New Zealand, the Rt Hon Helen Clark, flew through the hub.

The politician travelled with Eastern Airways, visiting Southampton on Tuesday before flying on to Brussels on Wednesday morning.

During her time in the city Ms Clark launched a series of lectures on New Zealand at the University of Southampton.

Southampton 'a gateway for business'Southampton Airport is becoming an important gateway for commercial travellers on trips to business hubs around Europe, BAA has claimed.

The airport currently offers flights to 45 destinations across the UK and Europe and 77 per cent of these are to international locations.

Recent additions to the Southampton network include flights to the German cities of Frankfurt, Hannover and Dusseldorf and the business capitals of Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris.

BAA passenger numbers down for June

BAA passenger numbers down for JuneThe recent terror scare at Glasgow Airport saw BAA's passenger numbers dip in June by 0.6 per cent compared to the same period last year.

In total, BAA's UK airports dealt with around 13.8 million flyers in the month, with European scheduled traffic up 0.8 per cent.

However, European charter traffic fell by 7.2 per cent for the month, along with domestic and Irish Republic traffic, which dropped by 3.7 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively.

Bank holidays boost May figures for BAA

Bank holidays boost May figures for BAABAA has revealed its traffic figures for last month and the airport operator will be encouraged by the statistics.

In total, BAA's seven UK airports handled 12.8 million passengers in May, which represented an increase of 0.3 per cent compared to May 2006.

It was the company's three Scottish airports which enjoyed the best growth for the month, with traffic up at Glasgow Airport, Edinburgh Airport and Stansted Airport by 3.7 per cent, 5.8 per cent and 9.9 per cent respectively.
