New Spanish routes from NorwichTravellers in the East Anglian region will be able to access more Spanish destinations this year as a result of new route launches from Norwich Airport.

From July 5th, Spanish carrier LTE will operate weekly services between Norwich and the popular holiday locations of Alicante, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca.

These will be LTE's first scheduled flights from a regional airport in the UK and managing director Michael Harrington said the carrier was "genuinely excited" to be launching the services.

The singer of Bangladeshi group Chime will celebrate renewing nuptials with his wife Mun Mun by feasting on dishes prepared by the chef of Norwich's Lucky Tandoori restaurant.

Taking off from Norwich International Airport, the party, to include 80 family members and friends, will fly over St Paul's Cathedral in London before returning home on September 27th, reportedly escorted by Russian fighter jets all the way.

Norwich Airport bosses eye Spain routesNorwich Airport authorities are holding talks with a range of airlines to discuss restoring routes cut by Flybe earlier this summer, local press have reported.

According to the Norwich Evening News, popular outcry has stimulated airport bosses into talking with alternative providers after Flybe announced that routes to Alicante and Malaga would no longer operate during the winter.

"We are looking at every possibility because we know people want the product back at Norwich," Louise Wilkinson, airport spokeswoman, told the paper.

Airport fee raises hackles, but convenience triumphsThe £3 fee payable at Norwich Airport before passengers can proceed into the departure lounge has come under scrutiny in the local press as a passenger questions the charge.

While the Civil Aviation Authority controls how much airports are permitted to charge travellers at Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, Stansted Airport and Manchester Airport, other UK hubs are permitted to levy fees as they see fit.

Norwich Airport authorities say the charge, introduced this April, will go towards development, noting that such fees are ordinarily concealed in the cost of an air fare.

Norwich Airport and Flybe at loggerheadsA war of words has erupted between Norwich Airport and budget airline Flybe over the decision of the latter to pull out of offering flights from east Anglia to two Spanish destinations.

The argument centres on claims made by Flybe that the £3 surcharge introduced by Norwich Airport was the main reason underlying the operator's move away from the airport.

However, Richard Jenner, managing director at Norwich Airport, has said that the reason in his opinion as to why the airline has pulled out is that "they haven't been able to get bums on seats".

Norwich Airport loses two flightsFlights to two Spanish destinations have been axed from Norwich Airport, resulting in ructions between the airport and budget airline Flybe.

According to Niall Duffy, Flybe's head of communications, the airline had been offered little choice but to withdraw flights from Norwich Airport to both Malaga and Alicante due to aiport taxes rising.

However, this claim is disputed by the managing director at Norwich Airport, Richard Jenner who explained that other low-cost airlines were offering larger planes, more frequent flights and lower seat prices for passengers.

Expansion at Norwich Airport would 'put city on map'If Norwich Airport was to continue to expand over the next 25 years it could help to put the city "on the map", according to a new report.

The claims come from the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) which says that if the airport was to treble in size it would have a notable effect on the city's economy as a whole, the Norwich Evening News reports.

Officials have been studying the possible impact that such building work would have and reported that up to 1,400 jobs would be created as well as vast amounts of investment.
