Leeds to host new connection to New York

Jet2.com has announced it will begin flights from Leeds/Bradford Airport to New York starting in November.

Travellers are urged to book early as the airline's first ever transatlantic trips from the Yorkshire airport are expected to sell out quickly.

'No doubt' that regional airports will thrive

One of the bosses of Leeds/Bradford Airport has claimed there is absolutely no doubt that regional hubs around the UK are set to continue to grow and rise in popularity.

Tony Hallwood, commercial and aviation development director at the airport, said that regional bases are beginning to offer competition to traditionally dominant London hubs such as Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport.

"As [regional] airports introduce more destinations and more choice with a wider number of scheduled airlines, there is now less need for people to trawl down to London to connect to flights worldwide," he said.

Thomas Cook takes off from Leeds

Leeds/Bradford Airport has presented regional travellers with a number of new holiday opportunities this month with the launch of new services from Thomas Cook Airlines.

The operator commenced a range of new operations from the Yorkshire base on May 1st, boosting its capacity for the summer season by 20 per cent.

Travellers using the airport hotels at Leeds/Bradford will be able to catch Thomas Cook flights to holiday destinations in mainland Spain, the Balearic islands, Greece, Malta, Portugal and others.

New flights to Turkey for Leeds passengers

Leeds/Bradford Airport passengers will soon be able to access a new range of flights to Turkey.

Goldtrail Holidays, which specialises in offering services to the country, has announced that it will be providing new flights from the Yorkshire hub to Bodrum and Dalaman during the summer.

The company will offer two flights a week to Dalaman and Bodrum, as well as one connection per week to Antalya.

Leeds/Bradford gets connection to Pakistan

Leeds/Bradford Airport will see a boost to its long-haul network next month when the first non-stop flights between the Yorkshire region and Islamabad, Pakistan are launched.

Two services a week will be offered by Shaheen Air International, commencing on February 7th.

Shaheen Air was designated the second national carrier of Pakistan in October 2007 and operates 15 domestic and international routes.

Leeds/Bradford boosted by new services

Leeds/Bradford Airport passengers will have a broader range of holiday options to choose from this year following an announcement from Thomas Cook that it will be boosting its presence at the hub.

The company confirmed that during the winter 2008-09 season it will be offering new routes from Leeds/Bradford to the popular holiday locations of Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Lanzarote.

These new services will be offered in addition to Thomas Cook's routes from the Yorkshire airport for summer 2008, to destinations including the Algarve and Turkey.

Ryanair carries 2m from Leeds Bradford to Dublin

Leeds/Bradford Airport has handled its two millionth Ryanair passenger flying to Dublin, it has been announced.

The low-cost airline's route from Leeds to the Irish city was launched in 1996, with 70,000 passengers using the connection in the first year.

Since then Ryanair has undergone substantial growth to the point that it expects to carry over 300,000 passengers at Leeds/Bradford this year.

City sees £51m windfall from airport sale

Money which has been obtained by council chiefs in Leeds through the sale of Leeds Bradford Airport is to be put towards a major revamp of the city centre.

According to reports, councillors will use the £51 million windfall to pay for some major projects including creating a new concert arena, building a public swimming pool and redeveloping schools in the area.

Leeds Bradford Airport was sold three months ago to Bridgepoint Capital for a deal worth £145.5 million.

Jet2 reports surge in sales

The awful summer in the UK has had a beneficial effect on the profit margins of Leeds-based airline Jet2 as Brits flock abroad to catch some sun.

Proving popular is the Canary Islands and Jet2 now offers 26 flights per week to the destination from a range of northern airports such as Leeds Bradford Airport and Manchester Airport.

Sales are currently "above where [Jet 2] anticipated this summer", according to Mandy Round, general manager of Jet2holidays.com and she added that package holidays are the order of the day.

£145m Leeds Bradford deal is done

European private equity firm Bridgepoint Capital has bought Leeds/Bradford Airport for £145.5 million.

The consortium of five west Yorkshire authorities agreed to sell their 100 per cent controlling stake in the airport earlier this year and now Bridgepoint has earmarked a £70 million investment to develop the site.

Leeds/Bradford Airport is one of the north of England's major regional airports, ensuring a great service to flyers through its excellent airport hotels, airport lounges and airport parking facilities.
