A group of pupils from a Croydon high school are celebrating after winning a national competition to design an airport adventure zone.
Four children from Selsdon High School scooped a £500 winner's cheque for their futuristic airport terminal.
BAA, the operator responsible for Heathrow Airport and Stansted Airport, ran the competition and gave the finalists a tour of Gatwick Airport as part of the prize.
Gatwick Airport is located in Crawley in Sussex and is the UK's second busiest airport, handling over 34 million flyers last year and the kids were also given a demonstration by PC Chris Murray on how explosives were located at the site.
Caroline Nicholls, BAA communities trust trustee and competition judge, told the Croydon Guardian: "A really amazing level of creativity and innovation was shown by students in developing their ideas and each team displayed a number of novel ideas."
The Selsdon group were awarded the most creative and best constructed adventure zone in the 12-18 age group.
Among the innovative designs by Kelly Bidwell, Jayland Cubitt, Carolanne Volp, Michaela Gregory and their teacher Alan Day were a 4-D cinema and a balloon lift.
The group dubbed themselves the Phoenix Experience and were handed a trophy constructed from aircraft equipment, as well as their prize money.
