Dublin Airport Authority reports strong growthDublin Airport Authority (DAA) and travel retailer Aer Rianta International (ARI) have seen record profits this year, with a 56 per cent increase in 2007 according to new figures released.

The DAA said that profits rose from €69.5 million in 2006 to €109 million for 2007. ARI, which manages the group's airport investments and airport retailing activities overseas, said it grew its profit contribution to the group by 73 per cent over the last year €29.1 million.

Chairman of the DAA, Gary McCann, said that construction of Dublin Airport's new passenger terminal is on schedule for completion by the end of 2009 and passengers would be able to use the new facility in two years' time.

Dublin Airport 'may need third terminal'Dublin Airport's second terminal is not set to open until 2010 but it has already been suggested that a third passenger facility will be necessary by 2012.

A study commissioned by businessman Ulick McEvaddy claims that up to 32 million people a year could be using Dublin Airport by 2012, meaning that no fewer than three terminals would be necessary if congestion problems are to be avoided.

However Mr McEvaddy's report could have been influenced by his own interests, as the businessman wants to build a third facility on land he owns close to the airport, the Irish Independent reports.

Dublin Airport sees 9% passenger boostDublin Airport saw a nine per cent year-on-year increase in passenger numbers in August, it has been revealed.

A total of 2.4 million passengers passed through the hub last month, the Dublin Airport Authority revealed.

This means that, on average, over 77,000 passengers used the airport every day in the month of August.
