Three new easyJet services from BristolEasyJet will launch three new routes from Bristol Airport this week, to Biarritz, Olbia and Split.

The first service to Biarritz, in south-west France, departed on April 23rd, while the connections to Olbia in Sardinia and Split in Croatia will both get underway on April 26th.

Biarritz became easyJet's 39th route from Bristol when it launched earlier this week and the first passenger on the service was given two free tickets on the airline's other new flights from Bristol.

Bristol hosts launch of new Oslo servicePassengers will now be able to fly direct from Bristol Airport to the beautiful Norwegian capital of Oslo after carrier Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) launched a new service.

Travellers can jet into the Scandinavian city on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays throughout the summer from the busy south-west hub.

Lufthansa looks forward to Bristol, Birmingham servicesGerman airline Lufthansa has looked forward to its forthcoming services from Bristol Airport and Birmingham Airport, claiming that they are evidence of the airline's commitment to its UK services.

The carrier experienced a record year on its network of flights to the UK and Ireland in 2007, with more than 3.66 million people flying to and from the islands with Lufthansa.

This is an increase of almost 60,000 (1.6 per cent) on the figures recorded in 2006.

Destination choice 'a driver of regional growth'The growing choice of destinations on offer to travellers is one of the major factors behind the success of regional airports, according to an industry spokesperson.

Tony Hallwood, aviation development director at Bristol Airport, said that the range of flight options now available to people living outside London means that these travellers do not have go through the hassle of travelling far to fly to their desired destination.

"Given the choice between a direct flight from their regional airport and a journey by road or rail to travel from an overcrowded and congested London airport, most travellers will take the local option, cutting down on the carbon emissions from unnecessary surface journeys in the process," he said.

Stockholm route to be restored for Bristol passengersScandinavian Airlines System (SAS) has confirmed that it is to reinstate its route between Bristol Airport and Stockholm next year.

The carrier said that the connection proved "highly popular" with passengers from the south-west when it was offered during summer 2007.

Next year's service will be operated twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, with services flying to Stockholm's Arlanda airport.

Ryanair opens Bristol baseLow-fares airline Ryanair has opened its base at Bristol Airport today, with flights launched to Budapest, Derry, Knock, Milan, Porto, Riga and Wroclaw.

November 8th will see new Ryanair services to Poznan and Rzeszow in Poland, Bratislava in Slovakia and Dinard in France. Flights to Katowice in Poland will begin on November 10th.

Two more ski destinations will be available from Bristol Airport next month when Ryanair commences services to Salzburg on December 19th and Turin on December 22nd.

Cleaner aircraft unveiled by easyJetLow-cost carrier easyJet has unveiled plans for its new environmentally-friendly ecoJet, which it claims will help cut carbon emissions by 50 per cent by 2015.

The budget airline, which has hubs at Bristol Airport, Liverpool Airport and Stansted Airport, says it is the first airline to outline the requirement that short-haul aircraft should meet to be "super-clean".

In order to meet its targets the ecoJet will need to be 25 per cent quieter and emit 50 per cent less CO2 than today's newest planes.

May proves to be a busy month for easyJetLow-cost airline easyJet has revealed that passenger numbers were up last month, with the budget carrier reporting a 13.8 per cent gain in traffic.

The airline, which is based at Luton Airport, revealed that it carried 3.3 million passengers in May, compared with 2.9 million a year ago.

Revenue was also up by 15.2 per cent to £1.7 billion for the past 12 months ending in May.

If plans are given the go-ahead, pensioners in Longford will be able to get free lifts to Bristol International Airport without having to worry about train delays or parking difficulties.

According to the Weston Mercury, lifts will be offered to any elderly person living in a two-mile radius of the scheme, which is aimed at lowering the carbon footprint caused by people driving to and from the airport.
