New hotel for Aberdeen AirportA new flagship luxury hotel has been unveiled for Aberdeen Airport.

The £15 million, 180-bedroom establishment will be sited on Argyll Road, within walking distance of the airport's main passenger terminal.

As well as regular rooms for people travelling to and from the Scottish hub the new Marriott hotel is also set to have a conference room for meetings and social functions as well as a terraced outdoor restaurant.

New hotels 'planned for Heathrow T5'One of Scotland's richest men has launched a £70 million venture to build two new hotels at Heathrow Airport, reports claim.

Lord Laidlaw has formed a partnership with Rokeby Developments to build new hotels for the passengers that will use Heathrow's Terminal 5, according to Scotland on Sunday.

The new terminal, which cost over £4 billion and is one of Europe's largest construction projects, is expected to handle around 30 million passengers a year once it opens in March 2008.

Community-minded travel firms laudedConde Nast traveller has unveiled the winners of its 'World Savers Awards', which recognise travel companies delivering the most outstanding overseas experiences to customers concerned about their carbon footprint and impact on communities.

Although passengers flock to airports such as Bristol Airport, Edinburgh Airport and Heathrow each year, many are still concerned about green issues and reducing their carbon footprint.

Of 71 hotels, resorts, airlines and travel operators considered, among the stand-out best were Marriott Hotels, applauded for achieving a 70,000-tonne reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over the last year and conducting waiter-training programmes for underprivileged children in countries including Romania, where orphanages represent a grave social problem.

IHG offers new Gatwick hotelAnother addition to the InterContinental Hotels Group's (IHG's) portfolio of airport hotels has been announced after the firm declared that the Crowne Plaza Gatwick-Crawley will open later this year.

The scheduled opening of the hotel is set for October and the new Gatwick hotel will be operated as part of a franchise operation under the guidance of both IHG and Crimson Hotels.

The Gatwick Crown Plaza will be one the top airport hotels in the UK after refurbishment work is completed at the site, this development on top of the previous £8 million-worth of investment injected in 2005.

New Marriott hotel for Gatwick

Gatwick Airport is to benefit from the opening of a new Courtyard by Marriott hotel next year.

The 218-room hotel is to be opened under a franchise agreement with the Kew Green group - which to re-brand the other 11 Courtyard hotels currently open in the UK - and Marriott believes that it will prove a massive hit with travellers.

Ed Fuller, Marriott International's director of international lodging, said: "European business travellers, including those in the United Kingdom, are looking for quality, innovation, functionality, service and style at a fair price.

"We are confident that this newly designed, stylish, contemporary Courtyard with its distinctive European flair will be an immediate hit with the travelling public.
