Aberdeen Airport 'most improved in 2007'Aberdeen Airport has been given an award for achieving the best improvement of all of the world's air hubs in 2007.

The Airports Council International (ACI) named Aberdeen as the most improved hub in its 2007 service quality awards.

Some 200,000 passenger surveys formed the basis for the awards, covering every aspect of airport operations from check-in to departure.

Eastern Airways to expand from UK hubs

Eastern Airways to expand from UK hubsRegional carrier Eastern Airways has announced plans to expand operations at a number of its UK hubs, with most of the developments taking place at Aberdeen Airport and Newcastle Airport, its largest bases.

From March 3rd, there will be frequency increase on Eastern Airways services from Aberdeen to Newcastle, Southampton and Leeds/Bradford Airport.

The carrier will also offer more flights from Newcastle to Southampton, Cardiff Airport and Stavanger, while Southampton will see more services to Leeds Bradford and Angers Loire.

One year delay for airport rail link

One year delay for airport rail linkThe planned rail link servicing Glasgow Airport flyers has been delayed by another year, meaning the completion date is now 2011.

Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson revealed the delay when he outlined the government's rail and road priorities recently.

Many flyers rely on public transport to get to the airport and those travellers affected by the delay may wish to consider driving themselves and using airport parking as an alternative solution.

Flyers eyeing up Russian alternative

Flyers eyeing up Russian alternativeA new online flight booking site called Alternative Airlines has revealed that bookings for domestic flights to Russia has soared recently.

The site specialises in providing services to routes that tend to be ignored by other travel providers and it has reported a greater percentage of interest in Russia of late than previously anticipated.

Alternative Airlines managing director John Pope suggested that Russian aviation was "booming", with more western built aircraft being used by Russian carriers.

Bank holidays boost May figures for BAA

Bank holidays boost May figures for BAABAA has revealed its traffic figures for last month and the airport operator will be encouraged by the statistics.

In total, BAA's seven UK airports handled 12.8 million passengers in May, which represented an increase of 0.3 per cent compared to May 2006.

It was the company's three Scottish airports which enjoyed the best growth for the month, with traffic up at Glasgow Airport, Edinburgh Airport and Stansted Airport by 3.7 per cent, 5.8 per cent and 9.9 per cent respectively.

Aberdeen Airport boasts busy April figuresBAA has revealed the traffic figures at its seven UK airports for the month of April and it makes great reading for the growing Aberdeen Airport.

In total, BAA's seven sites handled 12.2 million passengers for the month, but the numbers represented a 1.6 per cent decline compared to April 2006.

However, Aberdeen Airport and Edinburgh Airport were BAA's best performers last month, with traffic growing 8.2 per cent and 3.6 per cent respectively.
