Stansted: Easy connections to US available

People looking to visit the US could consider taking a flight from Stansted Airport in the New Year, it has been suggested.

With the pound extremely strong against the dollar, many people have been flocking to the US in recent months but according to a spokesman for BAA Stansted Airport, its still worthwhile hopping across the Atlantic for a break.

"January is a great time to visit the US - especially if you're looking to pick up a bargain in the post Christmas sales," he said.

As the US is so large, people planning to head to smaller destinations in the country may find it tricky to find a direct flight.

However, the spokesman added that travellers departing from Stansted Airport can fly to "four of the most popular cities - New York, Washington, Las Vegas and Los Angeles - and access to virtually unlimited connections across the States".

"Visiting the US couldn't be easier at any time of the year," he said.

The tourism industry is keen to encourage people to head to the country, with Steve Porter, chairman of Discover America, telling Reuters: "The best way for the world to understand America is to meet Americans."
