EastEnders star plans a stay in Rent
Jessie Wallace, who played Kat Slater in EastEnders, is to star in West End musical Rent from December 24th this year.The actress will take over the role of Maureen from another well known television personality, Denise Van Outen.
Wallace shot to fame playing the role of feisty ladette Kat in the BBC soap opera and has since appeared in television productions including A Class Apart and The Dinner Party.
She will join a cast that includes Siobhan Donaghy, formerly of girl band Sugababes, playing Mimi, Luke Evans as Roger and Oliver Thornton playing the character of Mark.
The current West End production of Rent is a reworked, re-orchestrated version of the 1996 Broadway rock opera, which went down a storm in New York, winning a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize.
London visitors can find the play, which is partially based on Puccini's La Boheme, at the Duke of York's Theatre on St Martins Lane.
