EasyJet launches from Birmingham

EasyJet launches from BirminghamBirmingham Airport hosted its first ever flight from low-fares airline easyJet on December 14th as the carrier commenced services to Geneva, Switzerland.

The daily connection is expected to prove popular with travellers in the Midlands owing to the access it provides to ski resorts.

Customers on the inaugural flight were greeted by Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham Airport, and David Osborne, easyJet's UK general manager.

The first passengers were also presented with a gift of a ticket on the next new flight that easyJet will launch from Birmingham, to the French city of Grenoble.

Mr Kelly said: "Here at Birmingham we are delighted to have easyJet on board as one of our low-cost carriers. Geneva is available for the region's travellers all year round.

"Grenoble, a new scheduled service for the airport, launches flights from December 22nd until April 20th 2008. We believe the two services will be popular for the ski season and offer all passengers even more choice from their local airport."

Birmingham is the sixth largest airport in the UK and the second largest outside London, with around 9.2 million passengers passing through its two terminals in 2006.
