More Brits 'doing shopping abroad'

An increasing number of British people are travelling abroad to do their Christmas shopping, according to research.

A study by holiday accommodation provider Alpharooms.com reveals that a record number of Brits will be shopping overseas this year to find some unusual gifts and get away from the stress of the UK.

The company claims that the most popular destinations include European cities such as Cologne, Berlin and Budapest.

Traditionally popular shopping hotspots such as New York and Paris have also continued to entice visitors, according to Alpharooms.com.

Gareth Hockey, the firm's marketing manager, said people welcome the opportunity to escape Britain's "frantic" shopping centres.

He added: "Rather than being restricted to UK prices, people see that a real bargain can be had by going abroad and want to make the most of the opportunity to buy truly original gifts for their loved ones."
