Glasgow to invest £500k in drop-off zone

Glasgow to invest £500k in drop-off zoneGlasgow Airport has announced plans to plough £500,000 of investment into its passenger drop-off facilities.

The drop-off zone will be widened to increase capacity, new shelters will be installed along St Andrew's Drive and a covered walkway will be built leading to the main terminal.

Improvements to facilities for disabled passengers are also being considered. Present arrangements allow blue-badge holders to pick up or drop off in car park two, opposite the terminal, with up to 30 minutes free access.

The £500,000 improvements are being carried out following the failed attack on Glasgow Airport earlier this year and bring the total cost of the incident to more than £2 million.

Gordon Dewar, the hub's managing director, said: "We believe that the improvements we are making represent a balanced and proportionate response that combines tougher security measures with safe and secure access for passengers.

"We are grateful to our passengers for the patience and understanding they have shown over the past few months."

Mr Dewar said that the airport's aim is to provide a safe and convenient service within the security constraints that currently govern travel from the UK.
