Stansted 'embracing innovation'
Stansted Airport has claimed that its commitment to innovation and advancement through technology has been displayed at the latest transport forum. The airport held its latest annual conference last week, which brought together more than 100 experts in their fields to focus on how technology can be used to provide solutions for potential transport problems in the future.
Issues were discussed by a number of speakers, from organisations including the Institute of Highways and Transportation, the Department for Transport and One Railway.
Stansted managing director Stewart Wingate said that the airport parking facilities available at the hub are one of the many areas where the benefit of technology can be seen.
"The future of the airport presents many challenges from many different angles, from the sustainability agenda to the future growth agenda," he said. "What is clear is that technology and innovation have a key role to play in everything we deliver.
"The solar lighting of our road signs and bus stops, the real time information in the short-stay car park and the state-of-the-art material that was used on the roof of our bus and coach station are just some examples of how we are embracing technology to gain many benefits."
Stansted is the third busiest airport in the UK and handles more than 24 million passengers a year.
