Nottingham EMA 'airport of the year'
Nottingham/East Midlands Airport has been named airport of the year at the 2007 World Travel Awards.The hub, which includes flights to Acapulco, Islamabad, Barcelona and others in its winter schedule, overcame competition from the UK's major airports to win the award.
However there were recognitions for Britain's busiest air hubs at the awards ceremony, with Gatwick Airport winning the accolade for the top UK base for leisure travel.
Heathrow Airport was named the favourite UK hub for business travel.
Virgin Atlantic performed particularly well at the 2007 World Travel Awards, with success in the best economy class, best business class, favourite long-haul scheduled airline and airline of the year categories.
Australia was named the 'dream destination' of 2007, while the Costa Blanca was acknowledged as the top beach holiday location and Barcelona awarded the favourite city break destination accolade.
