Passenger boost for Birmingham in October

Passenger boost for Birmingham in OctoberBirmingham Airport handled a total of 850,034 passengers in October, a 2.8 per cent increase on the previous year.

This number comprised 607,979 travellers on scheduled services and 242,055 charter passengers spread across the West Midlands hub's two terminals.

Marked growth of 10.1 per cent was recorded on long-haul services to Asia while an 8.5 per cent passenger increase was achieved on non-EU routes from Birmingham Airport.

EU services saw a 5.9 per cent rise in passengers in October, while domestic routes saw demand increase by 2.3 per cent.

The fastest growing scheduled route of all was Bratislava (298.5 per cent), followed by Palma (135.7 per cent), Aberdeen (110.8 per cent) and Murcia (69.4 per cent).

John Morris, head of corporate and community affairs at Birmingham Airport, said: "I am delighted that Birmingham continues to grow, offering more choice and exciting new destinations.

"More people than ever are choosing to travel from the Midlands' premier gateway rather than face the hassle of less convenient airports."
