Glasgow Airport keeping Scotland well connected
Improvements to Glasgow airport mean "Scotland is better connected than at any time in its history", it has been reported.BAA Scotland chairman Stephen Baxter told the Herald newspaper that the transport hub's 40 new international flights on offer this year were just the start of the airport's growth and that access to foreign destinations was now much easier for Scottish passengers.
The newspaper reports that in the last year alone, Scotland's airports had seen a wealth of new services - with flights now running to Boston and Geneva from Glasgow, and Dortmund, Munich, Madrid and Milan from Edinburgh.
Mary McLaughlin, director of transport at Scottish Enterprise, told the Herald that the increase in the number of flights out of Scotland had "been a real boon to the economy" and allowed Scottish firms to build business relationships internationally.
Meanwhile, airports in the north of England have also had a successful few months with Manchester Airport Group, which owns Manchester, East Midlands, Humberside and Bournemouth airports reporting a 2.1 per cent increase in revenue in the last six months to September.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the group boosted revenues from its car parks as well as saving £300,000 by switching off escalators when they were not being used.
