Edinburgh reaches 100 destinations

Edinburgh reaches 100 destinationsEdinburgh Airport now offers 100 destinations to its passengers, an achievement that operator BAA claims is a result of multimillion pound investment in route development.

There has been a steep rise in the number of flights available from the Scottish hub in the past year, with 29 new routes confirmed in 2007 alone.

BAA Scotland has invested some £20 million in new and expanding airlines in the past 12 months.

Edinburgh-based airline Flyglobespan announced the landmark 100th service - a weekly flight to the Croatian city of Dubrovnik set to take off next year.

David Johnston, managing director of Edinburgh Airport, said: "BAA Scotland's investment has helped deliver record growth in international traffic and a host of new direct services.

"These links are hugely important for our leisure passengers, who tell us they want to be able to fly direct from their local airport, as well as for incoming visitors and business travellers."

Next year £42 million will be spent on development of Edinburgh Airport, with plans in place for new aircraft stands and airfield facilities.
