Glasgow Skyhub development begins

Glasgow Skyhub development beginsConstruction work has begun on a year-long project that will see an improved Glasgow Airport opening in October 2008.

Following half a year of enabling work, the £30 million Skyhub development of the Scottish airport is expected to undergo seven months of construction before opening to the public five months later.

Passengers travelling from Glasgow are expected to benefit from reduced security waiting times, increased capacity in the terminal and more comfort.

There will be a purpose-built security search area as well as a number of new bars, shops and restaurants.

Gordon Dewar, managing director of the airport, said: "Skyhub will allow us to offer greater levels of choice and comfort for passengers by creating one departure hub open to all departing travellers.

"At £30 million, it is the largest single investment made by BAA for a decade and will transform the travel experience for passengers flying from Glasgow Airport."

The Skyhub development is part of a £200 million investment package that has been drawn up for Glasgow Airport for the next decade, which is designed to make travel through the hub as "safe and seamless" as possible.
