Numbers up for Birmingham in September
Birmingham Airport has announced an increase in its passenger numbers in September, with a total of 969,407 travellers passing through the hub.Some 642,182 scheduled passengers used the airport last month and 327,225 people used charter services, representing an increase of two per cent on the previous year.
EU routes saw growth of over eight per cent in passengers in September, while non-EU routes saw passenger numbers increase by nearly five per cent.
Domestic services saw growth of 3.3 per cent and long-haul routes to Asia experienced a 3.9 per cent rise in traffic.
John Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham International Airport (BIA), said: "It has been a busy summer here at Birmingham Airport with travellers taking advantage of the unrivalled choice of summer routes that BIA has to offer the region.
"Behind the scenes, we've been working on the airport's aspirations to 2030 - to provide even more choice and ensure that BIA remains the favourite gateway to the Midlands."
Birmingham's connection to Palma was the scheduled route to see the most growth in September (147.6 per cent), followed by Aberdeen (138.1 per cent) and Malta (72.2 per cent).
