Liverpool Airport wins prestigious award
Liverpool Airport has been named 'UK airport of the year' for the first time in its history. The hub received the accolade at the prestigious Travel Trade Gazette awards in London.
There was strong competition for the award from London Luton Airport and Manchester Airport along with Birmingham, East Midlands and Bristol bases.
Travel Trade Gazette, the UK's largest-circulation weekly newspaper for the travel trade, invited 37 industry experts to pick the winners in a range of categories.
Decisions were based on factors such as passenger and airline growth, public transport access, environmental initiatives and work with the local community.
Neil Pakey, managing director of Liverpool John Lennon Airport, said: "To win the industry's most prestigious airport award is a recognition of both [airport operator] Peel's belief in turning the airport into a real regional gateway and to the employees and businesses who work here to turn the investment into a real experience.
"This gives us confidence to keep pressing ahead and be at the forefront of the north-west's regeneration programme."
