Winehouse jets into Gatwick Airport
Amy Winehouse arrived at Gatwick Airport to flashing camera bulbs and teeming paparazzi on Monday, amid speculation that she had timed her return in order to be able to attend the Mercury Music Awards. The 23-year-old singer had been holidaying in lush Caribbean island St Lucia with husband Blake Fielder-Civil
She is nominated for the Mercury Music Awards, alongside 12 other solo and group artists including Arctic Monkeys and New Young Pony Club, for her second album, Back to Black.
After cancelling several gig dates, Winehouse has received intense scrutiny in recent weeks, particularly when her husband's family urged fans to boycott her music, claiming sales allowed Amy to finance her husband's alleged drug habit.
Their urgings seemed to have a perverse effect on fans, however, as Amy's album rose from third to second place in the UK chart.
Nevertheless, NME reports that bookmakers are now betting on Bat For Lashes to walk away with the coveted music award, with Winehouse's odds slipping after 'personal' issues apparently dented her public profile.
