Ed Harris investigated at Heathrow

Hollywood actor Ed Harris was arrested at Heathrow Airport yesterday after allegedly trying to board a plane while carrying a knife.

The Apollo 13 star was said to have been bundled into a corner of Terminal 3 by officers after they discovered the blade in one of his pockets.

According to the Mirror newspaper, Harris had been uncooperative when asked to empty his pockets at a security checkpoint in the airport and was "making life as difficult as possible" for the guards.

The star was investigated by police for three hours – missing his American Airlines flight – before finally being allowed to leave the country.

A Scotland Yard spokesman told the newspaper: "Police were called at approximately 9.20am to Heathrow's Terminal 3 to reports of a man with a knife. Officers attended and confiscated the knife.

"A 56-year-old US citizen was given a few words of advice and allowed to board his flight."

It is thought that the actor was carrying the lock knife without understanding the security implications involved.
