Coventry Airport to fight expansion block
An appeal has been launched by Coventry Airport relating to the government's decision to block its plans to expand the site.Due to the detrimental impact that noise pollution would have on the surrounding area, a public inquiry last month ruled that proposals for expanding Coventry Airport could not go ahead as scheduled.
Commenting on the ruling, Coventry Airport managing director Chris Orphanou remarked: "Our legal team has advised us that the decision is seriously flawed in law. We will be seeking a new inquiry."
He continued to state: "Hundreds of our customers, together with MPs, elected councillors, local businesses organisations and companies wanting to invest in Coventry, have urged us to make the appeal."
Established back in 2004, Coventry Airport had planned to construct a new terminal building so that a further two million passengers could be accommodated per year.
When Warwick district council stated its opposition to the plans of Coventry Airport, Mr Orphanou said that he was "bitterly disappointed".
