Stranded passengers finally coming home
After spending the past three days waiting in airport lounges in the Canary Islands, hundreds of British passengers are set to head for home today.
A travel company called Seguro Holidays has just one jet and when that suffered technical difficulties, it left over 300 holidaymakers stranded in airport lounges as they waited for the problem to be fixed so they could return to Prestwick Airport from Las Palmas in Gran Canaria.
Due to the firm cancelling flights both to and from Prestwick Airport, more than a 1,000 passengers have been left in limbo and around 330 passengers are believed to have had their money refunded by Seguro after finding their flight from Prestwick cancelled on July 21st.
Richard Burke, managing director of Seguro, explained to BBC Scotland's news website: "There was a further problem with paperwork with the Civilian Aviation Authority in Athens which delayed things.
"They have now reinstated the licence of Skywings and it will be operating as normal from Prestwick."
