Heathrow chief resigns

Heathrow chief resignsHeathrow Airport is set to see in one of its busiest summers ever with a new boss after Tony Douglas announced his resignation yesterday.

Moving on to Laing O'Rourke, Mr Douglas leaves Heathrow when the London airport is set to see an influx of some 200,000 passengers per day at peak times this summer, increasing numbers found in airport lounges, airport hotels and using airport parking.

Until the new Terminal 5 opens at Heathrow Airport, congestion is expected to remain high at the UK's busiest airport and he recently criticised customer service as "unacceptable".

Commenting on Mr Douglas' departure, BAA chief executive, Stephen Nelson said: "Tony's outstanding achievement for BAA had been the development of Terminal 5, one of Europe's largest building projects, which remains on time and on budget."

Heathrow's Terminal 5 is currently 97 per cent complete ahead of its scheduled opening next April and will offer an increased amount of airport lounges as well as going some way to easing the current congestion trouble.
