Calls for direct Edinburgh Airport road link resurface
Plans to build a direct road link to Edinburgh Airport have been revived by local business chiefs, the Edinburgh Evening News reports.Calls for the half-mile road link between the M8 and A8 have resurfaced, after the SNP revealed its intention to abandon plans for a new airport rail link.
Access to Edinburgh Airport has come under fire for some time now and Edinburgh Airport bosses are once again looking at ways to improve the single road access to the site.
Graham Birse, deputy chief executive of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, said: "Airports develop economies, it is as simple as that. With trams, within budget, going ahead and Earl looking decidedly uncertain, now is exactly the right time to revisit the M8 link.
"It is clear that as the airport itself expands to meet demand then the infrastructure around the terminal must also grow."
Edinburgh Airport, which is also known as Turnhouse, is the eighth largest in the UK and located around eight miles from the west of the city centre.
Flyers that drive to the airport have a wide selection of airport parking zones to choose from.
