Security stepped up at north-east airports
Security has been stepped up at both Newcastle Airport and Durham Tees Valley Airport, after the car bomb attack on Glasgow Airport at the weekend, reports The Newcastle Evening Chronicle.Similarly to airports across Britain, armed police presence has been increased at both sites, following the latest in a series of car bomb attacks in the UK.
Two failed car bomb attempts occurred in central London prior to the Glasgow Airport strike and so far eight men two of them believed to be doctors - have been arrested in connection with the suspected terrorist attacks.
Recent reports revealed that a doctor has been detained at Brisbane Airport in Australia in connection with the Glasgow Airport attack.
Newcastle Airport and Durham Tees Valley serve millions of flyers a year, many of which are residents from the north east of England, and authorities
A spokesman for Newcastle Airport said: "Additional resources were deployed throughout the force area and will continue to be over the coming days."
A spokesman from Durham police added: "We would ask the general public to go about their normal business but remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the police."
