East Midlands Airport beefs up security

East Midlands Airport beefs up securityHolidaymakers and other travellers are being told not to be alarmed by the added security measures at Britain's airports, after the recent scare at Glasgow Airport.

Armed police are on patrol at Nottingham/East Midlands Airport and a heightened state of alert is currently in place, BBC News reveals.

Two men were arrested in Scotland after a failed car bomb attempt on Glasgow Airport.

This follows two other foiled attacks in London, one outside the Tiger Tiger nightclub in Piccadilly and another on Park Lane.

Another incident forced bosses at Liverpool Airport to close the site for eight hours on Saturday night, after a suspicious vehicle was identified.

Some flights which were scheduled to land at Liverpool Airport had to be diverted to Nottingham/East Midlands Airport, which managers claim is operating as normal.

Flyers have been warned to check that their flights are still going ahead and to expect long delays.

And passengers have also been reminded that current security restrictions remain in place, such as limits on cabin baggage, and to ensure they do not have liquids containing over 100ml in their hand luggage.

Nottingham/East Midlands Airport and Liverpool Airport both offer airport hotels and airport parking for flyers.
