Bank holidays boost May figures for BAA
BAA has revealed its traffic figures for last month and the airport operator will be encouraged by the statistics.In total, BAA's seven UK airports handled 12.8 million passengers in May, which represented an increase of 0.3 per cent compared to May 2006.
It was the company's three Scottish airports which enjoyed the best growth for the month, with traffic up at Glasgow Airport, Edinburgh Airport and Stansted Airport by 3.7 per cent, 5.8 per cent and 9.9 per cent respectively.
Almost two million flyers passed through Scotland's three biggest airports last month and the Uefa Cup final, which was staged in Glasgow, is thought to have played a major part in boosting the impressive figures.
High-flying La Liga side Seville faced Spanish counterparts Espanyol in the European club football competition's final, with around 30,000 flyers coming into the city for the match.
Elsewhere, traffic dipped at Heathrow Airport and Stansted Airport by 1.9 per cent and 1.2 per cent respectively, while Gatwick Airport saw an increase of 2.2 per cent and Southampton traffic rose 0.7 per cent.
The majority of BAA's airports offer travellers strong selections of airport hotels, airport parking areas and airport lounges to ensure flyers fully enjoy their travelling experiences.
