French regional airports set for strike
UK flyers travelling to regional airports in France may face lengthy delays, after recent reports suggested workers at France's 25 regional airports were set for a strike.AFX News revealed yesterday that unions were set to take industrial action in a dispute over proposed new legislation, which will allow private investors to stake financial claims in airports.
The dispute does not include France's largest airports, Roissy-Charles de Gaulle and Orly, which Aeroports de Paris operates.
Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris is France's main international airport, while Orly, also located in the French capital, is a slightly smaller site.
Jean-Louis Labetoule, head of the airport section of the SNAPCC-UNSA union, said a strike would be indefinite, while Gerard Zimet of the CFE-CGC union suggested it would last 24 hours.
The unions wish to halt the 2005 law, allowing capital at 12 airports to become available to private financers.
Any travellers affected by severe delays would be well advised to consider airport hotels, which are often a valuable resource for travellers affected by such problems, while airport lounges also offer a sanctuary for passengers whose flight times are put back.
