Derry Airport re-opens
Derry Airport has re-opened following its closure on Friday over safety management issues. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) originally closed the Northern Ireland airport because of concerns over issues including the bird management system and drainage problems.
British Airways had been forced to reschedule flights to nearby Belfast International Airport.
And with routes from the site including Bristol Airport, Dublin Airport, Nottingham/East Midlands Airport, Prestwick Airport, Liverpool Airport and Stansted Airport, it was a huge relief for many UK flyers when the airport was given the all-clear on Sunday.
Airport chief executive Seamus Devine said: "It's the last thing we wanted to happen and of course we accept a large part of the responsibility."
Work was carried out over the bank holiday weekend to address the various concerns and make the necessary improvements to pass another inspection.
British Airways has revealed it will begin operating flights from Derry to Glasgow Airport and Dublin Airport, while Ryanair flights to Stansted Airport, East Midlands, Prestwick and Liverpool Airport will get underway on Wednesday.
In the meantime, UK flyers wishing to make the trip over to Northern Ireland are likely to consider Belfast International Airport as an alternative, featuring airport hotels and airport parking to offer flyers maximum comfort on their travels.
