Training college for Luton Airport staff unveiled

Training college for Luton Airport staff unveiledLuton Airport received a boost this week when a new £120,000 training facility was approved by the government.

The Learning and Skills Council gave its backing to the centre, which will be run by Luton's Barnfield College.

Airline and airport staff working at Luton Airport will be able to receive training at the facility 24 hours a day, in a bid to meet varying shift patterns.

Luton Airport is London's fourth biggest behind Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport and Stansted Airport.

It features an impressive choice of airport parking areas and airport hotels, helping it handle over nine million flyers a year.

Barnfield campus director Helen Mayhew, who is in charge of the centre, told personneltoday.com: "The size of the workforce at the airport runs into many hundreds.

"Airport employers are keen to upskill their workforce and to give them the opportunity to undertake high quality training to improve their competitive edge and service levels."

She added that the centre was already providing demand-led training for airport personnel, Servisair baggage handlers and Monarch Airlines staff.
