Third anniversary celebrations for Wizz Air

Third anniversary celebrations for Wizz AirLow budget airline Wizz Air is currently celebrating its third anniversary, after making its maiden flight from Katowice in Poland.

Since then the carrier has handled over six million passengers and established itself as one of central and eastern Europe's favourite low cost air travel alternatives.

Wizz Air carried over three million flyers last year, which represented a 50 per cent increase on traffic from the previous year.

This summer, the airline will be offering flights to 48 European airports on 90 destinations and plans to service around 4.5 million passengers in 2007.

The airline also recently announced new routes to Katowice and Warsaw from Stansted Airport, Belfast International Airport and Coventry Airport.

Wizz Air chief executive Jozsef Varadi said: "I believe that our market leadership, our commitment to low costs, our high quality operating model and our management capabilities are greatly underpinning Wizz Air's continuing expansion plan in the future.

"We look forward to become the single largest airline of all carriers in central and eastern Europe in 2008."

Wizz Air's fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft are some of the most fuel-efficient in the skies, with an average age of just three years.
