Liverpool airport plans 'transatlantic services increase'

Liverpool airport plans 'transatlantic services increase'Brits who choose to travel from Liverpool Airport could find a wider range of destinations on offer in the future.

Vancouver Airport Services (VAS), which also owns airports in the US and Caribbean, acquired a 65 per cent state in the travel hub in June of this year.

Craig Richmond, the new boss of the airport, told the Liverpool Daily Post that in the future he would "would love to see more long haul traffic to the US, Canada and the Caribbean".

The Dominican Republic, the east cost of the US and the Bahamas were all identified as target markets and Mr Richmond said that there have already been talks held with carriers about the possibility of a service between Liverpool Airport and Ontario in Canada.

"Nassau [in the Bahamas] is relatively poorly served to Europe with only a BA flight and a charter flight and I would love to get more flights going back and forth between Liverpool and Nassau if possible," he told the news provider.

Mr Richmond added that the hub also hopes to entice passengers who currently use Manchester Airport.

The main airlines which currently service Liverpool Airport include easyJet, Ryanair, KLM, Wizz Air, Flybe and Eastern Holidays.
