Gatwick Airport and Luton Airport flight punctuality decreases
Gatwick Airport and Luton Airport both saw large decreases in the number of flights which left on time during the first three months of 2010.Figures from the Air Transport Users Council (ATUC) show that the number of scheduled services which left on time from the two airports dropped by 11 percentage points compared to the same period in 2009.
Heathrow Airport saw a drop of six percentage points, while Stansted Airport's punctuality fell by five percentage points.
Overall across all UK airports 74 per cent of scheduled services departed on time in the first three months of 2010. January was shown to be the worst month for delayed flights, which the ATUC said was due to the severe weather conditions experienced at the beginning of the month.
In terms of chartered services, regional airports saw the largest decrease in the number of flights leaving on time at eight percentage points. The average drop across London airports for chartered services was five percentage points.
Figures from BAA show that Heathrow Airport was also severely affected by the ash cloud and British Airways industrial action in May, with a loss of passengers of six per cent.
