Monthy Pythons Spamalot opened last night with a star studded gala attended by amongst others,
Michael Palin,
Terry Jones, and
Terry Gilliam. The former members of the Monty Pythons team, turned up to show support for the show’s creator,
Eric Idle, who is a former Python himself.
The "
Pythons" were in the illustrious company of some of best known names in entertainment today who were also attending the opening night gala. Including
Stephen Fry, Eddie Izzard, Richard E Grant and
Jeremy Irons.
Idle took to the stage at the end of the nights performance, to thank all involved in bringing the production to stage, finishing it all off by joining in a chorus of that old Python favourite "
Always look on the bright side of life".
Tom Goodman-Hill, who plays
Lancelot in the
London production of
Spamalot, is claimed to have said at the Gala night party that it was “fantastic to have an audience like that to play to”.
The actor, who also plays
A Knight of Ni,
The French Taunter, as well as
Tim The Enchanter, later revealed that earlier in the evening he had received praise from within the hallowed Python ranks.
Indeed all of the Pythons attending the party, made clear their enjoyment of the show, making the point of praising a lot of the new scenes and songs that
Idle had introduced in to the
stage production.
Michael Palin is reported to have commented that he liked the fact that the show deviates from what they had all originally produced and it's this new dimension that helps it become a
stage musical. As well as complimenting the energy and humour that were obvious in the production.
It is believed that
Eric Idle, later commented that on following the success of
Spamalot he has embarked on a new project based on "
Monty Python’s Life Of Brian". This, however, will not be in the form of a musical in the Broadway mould, but an oratorio written for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He also indicated that it "will be very strange and different”.
