Luton Airport raises £36,000 for hospice
Luton Airport has announced that in 2009, it raised some £36,000 for a hospice that it chose as its Airport Charity of the Year.Keech Hospice Care received the donation, which was made up of an initial £10,000 pledge followed by money raised through charity fundraisers carried out by employees of Luton Airport.
These included marathons, charity collections, cake baking, quiz nights, triathlons and a midnight walk.
With the money, the hospice has been able to create a new adult in-patient unit with eight beds.
Chief executive of Keech Hospice Care David White said: "We are very grateful for the support we've received from London Luton Airport and have been really impressed by all the fundraising efforts put in by the airport team."
The hospice will remain the chosen charity of Luton Airport for 2010.
A new prayer room has been opened in Luton Airport this week (February 2nd). Available for multi-faiths, the new facility will be open 24-hours a day opposite LutonAirport lounges.
